Access Trax, LLC
Access Trax is a women-led social impact company on a mission to make the outdoors accessible for all. Our durable, modular, portable access mats provide a firm and stable surface for those who use mobility devices to easily access outdoor areas and recreation over sand, grass, gravel and snow.
We are proud to primarily serve families, adaptive sports organizations, outdoor events, and government entities across 15 countries. The accessible pathway is the most versatile and user-friendly wheelchair accessible mat available globally. Inspired by adaptive surfers and invented by occupational therapists in California, Access Trax provides Access for Life.
Co-Founders Kelly and Eric both attended graduate school at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in San Diego, CA where they were studying to become occupational therapists. As part of their curriculum they took a class called Assistive Technology. Students were challenged to create a device that would help persons with disabilities in their daily lives. Kelly and Eric were inspired to help local adaptive surfers cross the sand to the waters edge in their wheelchairs with dignity and independence. Motivated to create a user-friendly solution, the two designed numerous prototypes and tested them with the adaptive surfing community. The initial concept worked, and they have since continued to improve upon the design with the input of the adaptive surfers and other wheelchair users. Their goal to have Access Trax (formerly known as Beach Trax) available to the public has been realized in 2018 with the launch of their company, Access Trax.
We envision bringing communities together to help all gain access to any outdoor activity. Access Trax will be a leader in promoting inclusion and accessibility through product development, volunteerism, education, and advocacy.
Access Trax is proud to volunteer at various adaptive athletic events each year to support access and inclusion in sports and recreation. Access Trax also sponsors many events and initiatives with a direct mission of empowering people to live healthy and active lives without barriers.
As Access Trax grows, we will continue to dedicate time and funds towards initiatives that support the UN Sustainable Development Goals 3 and 10: Good Health & Well-Being and Reduced Inequalities. A long term goal is to develop a robust Para Athlete sponsorship program and facilitate equality in pay for ALL athletes as we approach the 2028 Paralympics in LA.
Access Trax continues to listen to the feedback of our customers and plans to launch 1-2 new product lines in the accessibility space within the next year.
The Access Trax product is made from a recyclable material and is made to last many years. We ship using recyclable materials and are currently working to further improve our sustainability practices in manufacturing (ex. exploring bioplastics & additive vs subtractive manufacturing).
Access Trax is currently working with an engineering consultant to explore making our manufacturing process more sustainable. Our hope is that bioplastics such as hemp may be a viable alternative that makes a positive impact on the planet.
Access Trax was inspired by adaptive surfers and invented by 2 occupational therapists passionate about empowering equal access to the outdoors. Our portable access mats are universally designed and therefore helpful for all people when moving over rough terrain such as sand or mud.
Access Trax is especially designed for people who use mobility devices such as wheelchairs so they can easily access the outdoors without barriers. The product is helpful for many outdoor activities such as sports/leisure, camping, gardening, and more.
